In a matter of weeks the Fort Sheridan Historical Society will conduct “Our Historic Jewel” House Tour. We are fortunate to have engaged eight Historic Homes around the Parade Ground that are representative of Fort Sheridan’s rich and patriotic background. There is great excitement about the chance to “peek” inside the homes and learn about the past life of a full fledged, fully operating military base. This unique opportunity will take place on May 20th, 1-5pm.

Tickets can be purchased using any major credit card or check by:

– sending the attached form back to Margie Ariano or

– calling Margie Ariano at 224-244-4450 or

– online at: https://fortsheridanhistoricalsociety.wordpress.com/2017/03/02/historic-house-tour/

(you do not need a PayPal account to use this service)

Prices are $45 or $50 at the door.

We are in need of docents to show our homes. Tickets for docents are $20. There are two sessions 1-3pm and 3-5pm. As a docent you are required to spend only one session in your Tour House giving you the opportunity to see the other Historic Homes. Please call Donna Fitzgerald to sign up 847-433-4333.

Newsletter: Volume II, February, 2017

The February membership meeting was successful in two ways. We had a tremendous turnout and enthusiastic volunteers signing up for the Historic House Tour May 20th. The book shown above is the directory from the first and only Fort Sheridan House Tour in 2000. We are in the process of replicating some of it for this year’s tour. We look forward to sharing our rich history and are most grateful to this year’s homeowners for allowing us to use their beautiful “Historic Jewels” to bring the past into the future. As always the case when Fort Sheridan residents and friends of the Fort get together, it is mesmerizing to hear stories and share memorabilia about what used to be here. So take a step back in time and join us on Saturday, May 20th. Please volunteer to help.

Our next membership meeting will be Thursday, April 6th. Our guest speaker is Diana Dretske, curator at the Discovery Museum and author of Images of America Fort Sheridan.
