Ossian Cole Simonds was the original Landscape Architect for Fort Sheridan when it was built in the 1880’s. Nancy Hannic is one of the few American Landscape Architects that is well studied in O.C. Simonds landscape design principles used at Fort Sheridan.
When the based was converted to its current neighborhood of homes, the O.C. Simonds design principles were included with the conventents of the communty. Today’s Fort Sheridan Homeowners are expected to install landcape that honors the O.C. Simonds designs.
Nancy Hannick been involved with Fort Sheridan since shortly after the base was closed and has remains actively involved to this day.
Come visit with Nany and the Fort Sheridan Historical Society as we learn more from Nancy about O.C. Simonds and the history of the landscape at Fort Sheridan!
Mr. Will Tippens was directly involved in the conversion of Fort Sheridan into the neighborhood it is today. Will has tremendous insite and knowlege of Fort Sheridan. About 50 people viewed Will’s presentation.
If you missed it, you can see it here! (it’s only blurry in the begining!)

On Saturday, May 20, 2017, 1:00pm to 5:00 pm, the Fort Sheridan Historical Society will be hosting a tour of 8 historic homes at Fort Sheridan. There is no better way to immerse yourself into the history of Ft. Sheridan than to walk through the beautiful historic homes.
The book shown here is the directory from the first and only Fort Sheridan House Tour in 2000. We are in the process of replicating some of it for this year’s tour. We look forward to sharing our rich history and are most grateful to this year’s homeowners for allowing us to use their beautiful “Historic Jewels” to bring the past into the future. As always the case when Fort Sheridan residents and friends of the Fort get together, it is mesmerizing to hear stories and share memorabilia about what used to be here. So take a step back in time and join us on Saturday, May 20th.
Please volunteer to help. We are in need of docents to show our homes. Tickets for docents are $20. There are two sessions 1-3pm and 3-5pm.
